Schoolz at Home began back in March 2020 when the schools closed to children all over the country due to the covid-19 pandemic. Many parents became terrified at the prospect of home schooling their children for the foreseeable future, and my friends started to approach me for advice, as I am a qualified teacher. This gave me an idea and inspired me to reach out to parents all over the country to support them at this really difficult time.
The initial plan was to provide online lessons in the subjects I was trained and qualified in, and flood my page with resources for parents to print out and use with their children. However, as the page grew with followers this was not what parents wanted. Parents just wanted to keep their kids occupied, so I responded to their needs, and signposted my followers to the best resources around!
Seeing the different courses that are available to home schooled children has inspired me to develop the Schoolz at Home brand further, and not just be a ‘signpost’ for the best resources out there. I have a passion for music and the arts, and I am now trained to deliver some levels for the Arts Award qualification. Arts Award’s unique qualifications support children and young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. The programme develops skills for success in 21st century life including creativity, leadership, reflective thinking and communication skills. Young people also develop knowledge and understanding of their chosen art forms. Arts Award is open to anyone aged 25 and under, and embraces all interests and backgrounds. Through Arts Award young people learn to work independently, helping them to prepare for further education and employment. I also offer a range of other courses and classes at an affordable price.
As I home school my own daughter I follow her needs and ensure she has not only has the best education, but maintain her own life skills and social interaction with home schooled children. We do this through the various groups that are on offer in and around the local area. These groups inspired me to start the ‘home ed hub’. The hub is a place where other home schooled children can come and play, learn, and most importantly socialise and make friends. It is lovely to see the children making friends as the weeks go by, and i am hoping to open a new hub in the not too distant future.
